Iris Dark Gtk Theme: v1.9 by TheVirtualDragon Iris Dark Gtk Theme: v1.9 by TheVirtualDragon
Iris Dark is a flat theme that uses varying shades and tones to create distinction and a modern experience. It supports Gtk 3.10, Gtk 3.12 and Gtk 2 (using the Murrine engine).

I'd appreciate it if you could report any bugs you find at github.com/xyl0n/iris/
Follow the Iris Project page on Google+: plus.google.com/10130091581553…
Also see the Iris Light theme: fav.me/d73dv3h

The icons are not released and the shell theme is Elegance Colors: fav.me/d525x6c

If you wish to, you can buy the theme to help support it's development.

Happy tweaking :)

License: GPL 3.0

There's currently no Xfce window theme for Iris, but you can try to use Numix instead as they are very similar.

It's not very simple, but you can start by modifying an existing theme, such as Numix or Iris. The documentation for the how to modify the code is here - developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stabl…

They (Gnome-devs) should made it easier to create/edit themes.
The documentation/wiki should also show improvements/more examples.

I'd also searched for a good tutorial, but mostly they also give instructions on howto modified existing theme's.
But it should be better to create/write from scratch, as the same way you write a HTML-page. ;)

I agree, but the problem with writing from scratch is that most themes are pretty much identical code wise (apart from the theming of the individual widgets) since they both need to contain roughly the same code in order to work. So there's no point starting from scratch because you'll probably end up with code that's very similar to another theme, even if the actual look and feel of your theme is different.

But apart from that, there should be an easier way to edit themes, if only to encourage more people to create them.

Is there any update about fixing wireshark filter issue in Ubuntu 14.04? I am using it frequently because of my job.

wireshark filter box selection is not visible (green part in following link):

This theme is great, I wonder how can we match Firefox inactive tabs to this, The text becomes white, and unreadable on white tab background.

Absolute perfection. Stylish and easy on the eyes (both literally and figuratively). I spent my first points on DeviantArt on this theme and I couldn't have spent them any better. Keep up the great work, please! :)

Great and original work!

Can you suggest a Gnome-shell Theme that goes well with Iris? Still elegance-colors or something else? Thanks :)

I'd still say elegance colors, due to the customizability of it. I still haven't gotten round to making an Iris GS theme, so this is your best option. :)

Extract the archive that you download, and move the folder in the archive to a folder called .themes in your home folder. If ti doesn't exist, just make it. Also, you have to press Control+H to get it to show.

You might be able to use a custom theme maker and then just change the colour of the top bar  (something like this: www.themebeta.com/chrome-theme…

I've created a PPA for this theme. Run the following commands in a Terminal to install it on your system. Currently it only works on Trusty systems.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kestier19/gtk-themes
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install iris-gtk-dark

Wow, thank you! I'm not sure if future releases of Iris will support Trusty, since the version of Gtk it uses is getting old now, but I still appreciate your work and I'm sure it will be useful for many people. :)

looks rad! Just finished installing it on 14.04. I'm not sure if it is fully supported for 14.04, but I used a git repo from a guy called Kuzirashi.

github.com/Kuzirashi/iris

Workes like a charm now! :)

You mentioned that you only ever did the folder icons so releasing them would make it look incomplete.  It already looks incomplete due to there being no icons to go with the theme.

Thanks for this great looking theme.
Can I make a few suggestions?
1) Same dark bgcolor for Synaptic Package Manager, LibreOffice and GTK2 apps like my favorite text editor KKEdit
2) Dark bgcolor for Chrome browser so that same monochrome (light) icons look also nice and visible there
3) Same or some other dark bgcolor for sidebar (e.g. Nautilus) or providing such an option maybe
4) Other color variants, e.g. Blue (for the highlights, selected text, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestions, and I'm glad you liked the theme :)
1) I think that having some apps with a dark background and others with a lighter one would be inconsistent. Theming specific Gtk apps is fairly hard anyway, and near impossible (for me at least) for Gtk 2 applications.
2) Dark theming on Chrome seems to break the visual theming, as it's new rendering engine doesn't fully implement gtk theming.
3) That's a nice idea, I'll take it into consideration :)
4) I've had requests for blue variants already - it's extremely simple to do, just changing a few files, but I'm not sure if it would be reasonable for Iris, where I intended the theme to be heavily based around the bolder accent colour (which can be seen with how subtly it is used).

I had tried lots of theme. But, this is best theme that I have ever used. Many thanks to TheVirtualDragon... BTW, this theme must be the default theme of the Ubuntu.

Are you planning to fix following issues?

unity tweak tool issue (sub-frame name is not visible)

For the gedit bug, this is a problem with Ubuntu's Overlay Scrollbars - you can disable them using this guide and the problem should be gone - www.sysads.co.uk/2014/05/tweak…

The other problems have already been reported and I'm planning to fix them soon.

Thank you for using my theme :)
